This watch is a nod to the original Grand Seiko mechanical 9S watch from 1998, drawing inspiration from the environment of the Grand Seiko Shizukuishi studio where their skilled Takumi artisans handcraft the mechanical timepieces.
The 40mm 'Icefall' case is made of High-Intensity Titanium, an alloy that is 30% lighter than stainless steel and offers greater resistance to corrosion. This type of titanium has a luminous shine that sets it apart from other grades used in the industry, and it can be expertly polished to a flawless mirror finish. Plus, it has a higher level of hardness compared to pure titanium.
The icy blue dial of this watch draws inspiration from the stunning 'icefall' phenomenon observed when the natural springs near Mount Iwate freeze in the cold winter air. For centuries, the plentiful water sources in Shizukuishi have sustained the local community and played a crucial role in the establishment of the watch studio in this picturesque setting.
This 40mm watch is equipped with the in-house 9S85 Hi-Beat movement, ensuring precise timekeeping with a daily deviation of 5 to -3 seconds and a power reserve of 55 hours. Each Grand Seiko is meticulously crafted by Takumi artisans in Japan to meet the brand's renowned standards of accuracy, resilience, and readability.
